Sandra Caudle Wingate
January 30, 1945 – November 24, 2021
Sandra Caudle Wingate, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Born in Elkin, NC to Gilmer and Jean Mathis Caudle, Sandra attended Elkin High School and Women's College (now UNC Greensboro). Growing up surrounded by a large family, Sandra always centered them in her life.
Sandra fought a courageous battle with many illnesses and, after years of struggle, she was ready to enter God's kingdom where the pain and suffering would be over forever. Sandra is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Larry, two sons, Paul (Brook) and Don (Caroline), grandchildren, Kate and Bess, and many beloved cousins.
Sandra loved music and was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist's music ministry, playing handbells for over 20 years prior to her illness. She also taught Sunday School, was a youth group parent volunteer, and directed weddings at CUMC. A natural leader, she was President of the United Methodist Women and was instrumental in starting the church's Crucifer program to involve youth in leading the choir into the sanctuary.
Sandra's leadership extended into her community as well, where she served as President of the Greensboro Junior Woman's Club. Her love of music and the arts also led her to help raise money to refurbish the Carolina Theater, join the Greensboro Symphony Guild, and be an active member of the Carriage Hills Garden Club. Her artistry extended to her home, where she painted ceramics, especially Christmas decorations. Her Santa collection took over the den each year, much to the delight of Sandra and her family. A lover of books and reading, Sandra regularly read more than 200 books a year, keeping a list of each one on a yellow legal pad with curling pages. She learned more about sports than she ever wanted to know, especially Wake Forest, and yelled at the TV almost as much as her husband and sons. Sandra cherished her lifelong friendships with her classmates and friends from Elkin, NC and her many cousins. Her family will cherish the many memories she leaves, including the annual Christmas tree pickle hunt, her famous spaghetti (no one ever had enough sauce), the cut-out articles and stickers, and her exasperated laugh when she thought "her boys" were being silly.
A celebration of her life for Sandra and Larry will be held January 3, 2022 at 2:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3906 W. Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC . The family looks forward to sharing fond memories with friends and family at that time. Condolences may be made at www.jkennedyfsl.com . John Kennedy, Funeral Director, is assisting the Wingate family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Music Fund at Christ United Methodist Church, the Guilford County Humane Society, or the charity of your choice. The family thanks the nurses and the medical team at Well-Spring and Authora Care for their compassion and skilled care over the last six months - especially these last 12 weeks – as well as the many doctors who have treated Sandra over the years.
