Obituary

Myrtle Catherine Mathis Hayes, widow of John Buford Hayes, Sr. died Thursday evening at Pruitt Health Care Center in Elkin.  She was the last survivor of 14 children of Jones and Kate Mathis.

Surviving are, Son, Johnny Hayes and wife Janice of Thomasville, daughters, Ann Aldridge and husband Wade of Morganton and Katie Hayes of Elkin and husband Bryan Jones of Greensboro. Granddaughters, Julie Siebert and husband John of Raleigh and Ashley Foster and husband PJ of Greensboro.  Grandsons, Jason Hayes and wife Anna of Lexington, Richard Aldridge of Morganton, and Brandon Aldridge and husband Andrew Gibson of New York City.  Five great grandchildren. Sister-in-law Martha Holt of Winston Salem, Brother-in-law Bob Pardew of State Road and sister-in-law Rosa Lee Mathis of Roaring Gap

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday February 3, at Grassy Creek United Methodist Church, 291 Klondike Road, State Road, NC 28676. Officiants will be Rev. William Adams and Rev. James Prichard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Grassy Creek United Methodist Church where Myrtle served as a Sunday School teacher and secretary of United Methodist Women and other positions in the church for many years.
