Mildred Williams
ELKIN — Mildred Brantley Williams, 66, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Elkin. She was born on Oct. 10, 1949, at Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin to John Livingston and Natalie Purdom Williams. Mildred graduated in 1967 from Elkin High School as an honor student and also graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro in 1971 with a B.A. degree, majoring in psychology and minoring in music. She worked at the Guilford County Department of Social Services, Adult Services Division from 1971 until retiring in 2001 after 30 years of dedicated service. Her hobbies included photography, music, and caring for her pet cats. She returned to Elkin after retiring and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elkin. Many close relatives remember that Mildred worked at the ice cream place in Menemsha, Massachusetts, during her college years, loved her dog Captain, had a penchant for herbal teas, was a deep, philosophical thinker and possessed a unique sense of humor! She will be missed. Survivors include one brother, John Wesley Williams of Douglasville, Georgia; and cousins, Cindy Lou (Scott) Boudreau of Weston, Massachusetts, Maury (Charlene) Hiers of Waltham, Massachusetts, and Jeannine (Leon) Sample of Alexandria, Virginia. A memorial service be held Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery, Elkin, for friends and family with Pastor Rick Bennett of Elkin First Baptist Church officiating. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the First Baptist Church chapel, Elkin, at 11 a.m. that day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church, 110 Gwyn Ave., Elkin, NC 28621. Online condolences may be made at www.jkennedyfsl.com.
