Margaret Marie Hutchins Kelly, 93, formally of Pfafftown, NC passed away peacefully August 8, 2018 at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkin, NC. Marie was born in Wilkes County to the late Brad and Nonnie (Whitington) Hutchins. She was a graduate of Elkin High School and Mitchell College in Statesville, NC. Marie was married to James S. (Sam) Gray in 1946, who preceded her in death. In 1975 she married John A. Kelly, who preceded her in death.
Marie retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Winston-Salem, NC as a Tax Payer Representative. She was an active member of Beck's Baptist Church; serving on committees and bible studies. Marie contributed to the community as a volunteer for seniors needing income tax assistance, teaching tax preparation to civic groups, and helped with Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her sisters Dorothy Hinshaw, Helen Andrews and niece Crystal Couch.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, David H. Gray of Pfafftown, NC and James S. Gray, Jr. and loving daughter-in law Frances P. Gray, of Elkin, NC, granddaughters Anne-marie Douglass (Scott) of Summerfield, NC and Katy Shook (Ryan) of Edenton, NC, great-grandchildren Sarah Gray, Katherine, Elizabeth, and Lucy (Douglass) and Gray and Anne-marie (Shook). Marie is survived by her sister Sue Couch of Elkin, and the families of John A. Kelly; sons John Kelly, Jr. and Tom Kelly.
A private family burial service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin with Dr. Karl Minor presiding.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chatham Nursing Center for their loving and dedicated care of Marie during the last years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beck's Baptist Church Winston-Salem, NC, the Alzheimer's Association, or a memorial of their choice.
