Obituary

Louise Haynes was born February 10, 1926 to Claude W. and Pearl McCoin Simmons of Surry County, NC.  She grew up on a farm with brothers, Garvey W. Simmons, Dewey Lee Simmons , John W. Simmons and a sister Lorena Simmons Freeman

Louise attended North Elkin Elementary School, Elkin HS and Draughn Business College in Winston Salem.  She was employed by Chatham Manufacturing's Shipping Department working as office clerk, secretary to the department head, supervisor of over-the-road Tractor Trailer units then department head of Shipping & Warehousing and retiring July 29, 1989 after 43 ½ years of service.

Service to others included volunteer work with Tri County Christian Crisis Ministries and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Louise & John Henry Haynes were married October 2, 1946 at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Rev. J.C. Gualtney, pastor.  They were blessed with a son, Max G. Haynes, daughter-in-law Katherine Goad Haynes and grandson John Robert Haynes.

Louise was saved and baptized at age 12 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, joined Elkin Valley Baptist Church at age 15 and worked faithfully in all areas of church work.  She and John Henry attended Foreign Mission conferences and Sunday School weeks at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly.  They participated in the Living Nativity Scene from its beginning in the late 1950's.

They enjoyed traveling after retirement to Maine, stops in Freeport, RI to attend a ships reunion, the Bahamas for a Charles Stanley Bible Study Cruise; visited Disney and other places in Florida; bus trips to Branson, Missouri; Chicago; Canada by train; Michigan and Kentucky horse farms, Grande Ole Oprey in Nashville, Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY, Myrtle & Daytona beaches; first airline trip was to New York.

Louise was blessed with a good family, church and friends and God truly blessed her many years of service.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years (Dec. 24, 2006) and Brothers Garvey and Dewey Simmons, Sister Lorena S. Freeman and Brother John Simmons. Survivors are son Max G. Haynes and wife Katherine of Roaring Gap, NC, grandson John Robert Haynes of the US Navy stationed at NAS Jacksonville, Florida and many loving nieces and nephews.

.Louise survived cancers and accidents but continued to bless others throughout her 97 years.

She passed away peacefully with family present on January 13, 2024

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday Jan 17, 2024 at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the church Sanctuary. Conducted by Dr. Johnny Blevins.
