Obituary

Jack Thedford Sloop was reunited with his wife Dolly and son Chip in heaven on Friday
morning, May 20.
When friends and acquaintances spoke of Jack they spoke of a kind, generous man who loved
God and his family. Jack and his beloved Dolly, who passed in January of this year, had three
children and built a beautiful life together based on faith and love.
In the 70s and 80s, Jack was one of the premiere homebuilders in the area. After the death of
his son, Jack retired from building but quickly found that sitting around was not a way to heal a
heart and certainly not a path forward for him. So, he set about to reinvent his contracting
business while making time for volunteering and doing mission work both in the community
and oversees. He was always available to help if someone had a need. Jack was a faithful
member of his church, serving as a deacon and choir member.
About 20 years ago, Jack discovered he had a talent for making fine furniture and continued to
perfect that craft up to his death. Many friends and family members have been gifted with
Jack's beautiful furniture creations. He loved giving both of his time and talents.
Of all those accomplishments, the thing he was most proud of was his two grandsons. He took
such pleasure in cheering them on in every sport they played over the years. He loved to rib
them about their long hair. And he prayed for them daily and served as an example to them of a
man of strength and integrity.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved Dolly, his precious son Chip and many brothers,
sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He leaves behind two daughters
Melinda and Martha, his grandsons Hank and Chip, and his son-in-law Tom. He is also
survived by his sisters, Carol Whittington and Rachel Brook. His sister-in-laws, Mary Blevins
(husband - Ivan Blevins), Mary Jane Davis and Marlene Guyer, and one brother-in-law, Joe
Guyer as well as too many nieces and nephews to name. He loved them all.
The family wishes to thank Sheila Myers and Denise Bray for their dedicated companionship to
our Daddy. We also want to thank Dr. Paul Gulley, his nurse Kathy Coe and all the folks at
Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine. Thank you for the exceptional care given to both our parents
over the years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, at Fall Creek Baptist Church with visitation
starting at 1:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the
family cemetery at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that
any memorials be made in Jack's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice.
