ELKIN
Mr. Gilmer Reich Caudle, 92, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital . He was born in Surry County to James Henry Caudle and Margaret Reich Caudle. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Force, and was an active member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. In his retirement years, Gilmer enjoyed detailing cars, collecting clocks and watching Atlanta Braves baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 56 years Jean Mathis Caudle and their son Donald Jones Caudle. Also predeceasing him were his second wife, Lula Mae White Caudle and his two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are his daughter Sandra C. Wingate and husband Larry, two grandsons, Paul Wingate, wife Brook and great granddaughter Kate, and Don Wingate, all of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Dr. Johnny Blevins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the hour of the service.
The family suggests that any memorials be directed to Elkin Valley Baptist Church.
