Evelyn Swaim Dobbins, age 97, of Parkwood Place, Elkin, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. Evelyn was born June 25, 1920 to the late Robert and Mamie Stroud Swaim. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, M.C. Dobbins Jr, her son-in-law and dear friend, Ken Holcomb, and her three sisters, Della Osborne, Ethel Couch and Grace Felts.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Carolyn Holcomb of Jonesville, NC, her grandchildren, Meredith Holcomb of Charleston, SC and Scott (Sabrina) Holcomb of Lake Wylie, SC, two great-grandchildren, Emma Lou Matras and Miles Caldwell Holcomb, both of Lake Wylie, SC, and an adopted granddaughter, Katherine (Patrick) Whittington of Chapel Hill, NC.

Evelyn is also survived by her brother-in-law, George Felts of Elkin, NC, nephew Steve (Eva Jane) Felts of Lewisville, NC, and several great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was a lifelong member of Swan Creek Baptist Church, and she loved cooking, gardening, and working with her flowers.

The family would like to thank primary caregiver, Carolyn Martin, along with Glenda Chriscoe, Kim Skaggs, Chelsea Billips, Sonja Billips, Debbie Cowles, Paulette Gregory, Greta Lytton, Iva Dean Dobbins, Christy Martin and Judy Stoker, for their unwavering loyalty to Evelyn throughout the last two years of her life. Thank you to Melinda and Jane from Hospice for their care as well.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Swan Creek Baptist Church. The memorial service will be held at 4pm, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Swan Creek Baptist Church. To honor Evelyn's wishes a burial will follow at sunset at Swan Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
