Mr. Dewey James York , Jr. 90, died peacefully February 1, 2018. Dewey was born August 31, 1927 to the late Dewey James and Verta Harris York. He graduated from Ronda High School and attended Appalachian State Teachers College. His working career was spent in Human Resources in High Point, Thomasville and North Wilkesboro prior to his retirement from Brendle's in Elkin in1991. He participated in several professional organizations including the Executive Board of the NC Retail Merchants Assoc. He was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl York. Surviving are, his wife, Jean Brown York, two daughters, Jamye Y. Shaw (Lyn) of Elizabethtown, NC and Ellie Y. Cook (Rudy) of Lexington, NC. Two grandchildren, Heather S. Mintz (Dolph) of Kinston, NC and David Shaw (Emily) of Raleigh, NC and one great grandaughter, Mollie Mintz
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 in Hollywood Cemetery with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Elkin Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Stuart Taylor. The family will meet with friends at a reception at the church following the service.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Tri C. 440 W, Main St. Jonesville, NC 28642 or the charity of the donors choice.
