Annie "Dolly"
Guyer Sloop
Jan 21, 1937 — Jan 22, 2022
Annie Guyer Sloop (Dolly) was surrounded by her family as she left this world on January 22, 2022 to be reunited in heaven with her beloved son, mother, father, three brothers and two sisters.
Dolly is known for her kind heart, gentle spirit and beautiful smile. In 1958, she married Jack Sloop and together they had three children. They were married almost 64 years.
Through the years, Dolly helped build Jack's contracting business while taking care of their family. She was always active in her church — singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. Early in their marriage she and Jack were part of a gospel singing group named The Gateway Quartet. Dolly loved music and took every opportunity to sing. Neighbors would often see her mowing her yard and, over the sound of the mower, they could hear her singing old hymns and gospel songs to the top of her lungs. As Alzheimer's took so much from her, it couldn't take her love for singing songs especially to her beloved twin grandsons.
Dolly was a wonderful seamstress, cook and gardener. She loved sharing gifts from both her kitchen and garden. From her fabulous fried chicken to her German chocolate cake, her dishes were always favorites at church dinners.
Dolly was preceded in death by her precious boy, Jack Thedford Sloop Jr. (Chip), her mother, Gertrude Isaacs Guyer, her father, Robert Settle Guyer, three brothers, Walton, Jake and Sam Guyer, and two sisters Ella (Jim) Golden and Gertrude (Jackie) Sloop. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Jack Sloop, two daughters, Melinda Winstead and Martha Sloop, her grandsons, Henry Turner Sloop (Hank) and Jack Robert Sloop (Chip) and her son-in-law, Tom Winstead. She is also survived by her sister Mary Blevins (husband - Ivan Blevins), brother Joe Guyer, sisters-in-law Mary Jane Davis, Marlene Guyer, Carol Whittington, and Rachel Brock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank a special team of nurses that cared so tenderly for Dolly. Long time nurse and caregiver Sheila Myers who's dedication and servant's heart gave us such comfort and peace for the last five years. Denise Bray, who's kind gentle spirit immediately put the entire family at ease when she joined us early last year. And Melissa Shook and Laura Ervin who recently joined us and cared for mom with such compassion and respect. We can never thank you enough and you will always be a part of our family. To the team at Mountain Valley Hospice, there are simply no words to describe the gratitude we have for the service you provide and the care you gave to our whole family. And to Dr. Paul Gulley, nurse Kathy Coe and all the folks at Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine, thank you for the exceptional care you have given both our parents over many years.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at Fall Creek Baptist Church with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the family cemetery at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that any memorials be made in Dolly's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.jkennedyfsl.com
